So you never had rear speakers to begin with, is that correct? Mine never had them, so I now have Rockford Fosgate 6.5" 2-way speakers in the doors and a Kicker powered sub-woofer under the driver's seat. (On my 1980 there is a Lambda control unit under the passenger seat.) It sounds pretty good for what is a challenging environment for audio, and others have said rear speakers really don't add much in terms of sound quality. Check Crutchfield.com for compatible speakers and components, it'll give you a good starting point for what will fit.
