I may be mistaken, or thing may have changed between the SC and the 3.2, but my understanding was that the vertical piece behind the seat and the horizontal speaker shelf were attached to each other and installed as a unit. there is a clip as you mention that slips into the red tab you point out and there are the two screws in the bottom and the two screws at each each end of the top section as you have posted.

here are a few pics of the one from my 84. the vertical was in good shape but the leather had shrunk and warped the top where the speakers go. I ended up adding a piece of Masonite and thin layer of foam to the top section, and then redyeing the new leather to match the original brown. that is why in the front view you will see an addition seam above the top screw holes.
