I also love German equipment and I have an air rifle that is awesome for me, a Beeman R9. I got it for the same reason as you, cheap plinking, but break-actions are actually pretty loud. Reading your post made me get mine out and I am now watching youtube videos on making it quieter, so thank you for reminding me of how much fun they can be. I also have an RWS, but in my opinion the Beeman is awesome. It doesn't shoot as fast as your gammo but it feels like it was hand crafted.
I also have a 22 plinker AR15-22 that is fun, but I cannot get 22 ammo anywhere and the one time I found it the price was higher than 9mm! Which brings me back to getting into airguns....
I love air-cooled Porsches, so I guess Air guns make sense....
