About 48 years ago, I was sitting with my grandmother on her front porch in Seffner, FL and a man drove by and waved out of his car window. Hi Mrs. ***** he said. I asked who was that? She said, "oh, that was Don Garlits. He has an auto shop around the corner." I said Big Daddy Don Garlits?? She only knew him as Don. Wound up he was later a pall bearer at my granddad's funeral.
