The wheels on our CR-V are powder coated and have held up fairly well with just regular washing when I wash the car. Lot less harsh environment out here in CA than you have back there in NJ.
I would imagine those have clear coat on the 'aluminum' surfaces.
I know absolutely nothing about dealing with the salt on the roads you get. I'd be going nuts and washing them off every time they get exposed to it.
