I do our taxes each year. It's a royal pain to "translate" my wife's list of clothing items into the categories on Turbo Tax It's Deductible. Wife's list items - top, dress, shoes - It's deductible list items - has about 20 different tops, 20 different dresses and 20 different shoe selections! I end up just browsing for the highest value of that type item and pick it as the donated item. We've started taking picture instead - which makes it a bit easier to inventory the list and select the correct item description. We usually donate items to Goodwill every year to some extent, but some years we do the "cleaning of old" and end up claiming several thousand $ in donations, which puts a pretty decent dent in tax liability.
