I even bought one pint cans with screw tops thinking I could preserve it... no way!
I think it's activated by moisture in the air... once that hits it, the curing process begins.
I believe I've lost more of this stuff to hardening than I've actually used. Only solution I've found is to buy small pint cans, then use the whole thing at one time.
