I grew up in a Methodist environment and no real open alcohol consumption at all at any family event especially around my Methodist minister uncle.
I was honestly taken aback the first time I went to photograph a Catholic wedding, and the reception was in the basement. I walked down there and there stood a 5'2" nun if full habit, with a big mug of beer in her hand. Everyone was sucking down beer and wine I was happy to join in. I did not see one thing wrong with it, just different from what I was used to.
Again, as a kid of 9 or 10 I went over to a new friend's house and he said several profanities right in front of his mom. My eyes bugged out expecting a reaction like my parents would have had. She did not dot even notice. I learned a lot of new cuss words from him. I was smart enough to not test them at home.
