I believe that there are small pins that the wire is connected to before inserting the pin into the holder. There is a special tool made to remove the pins from the plastic housing. I don't think you can get them out without the tool. Not sure how waterproof they will be. The ones that are really sealed have a rubber seal on the male end of the connector.
