The ultimate irony is that the people who push the hardest for wind energy are the same ones who scream when you try to build them near their house. NIMBY is full of irony. We have lots of them in KS, the farmers say they’re about as good as an oil well in terms of the lease payments. But yes they are expensive, unreliable, and without government incentives are not a break even proposition.
