I knew the farmer from his autocrossing a Speedster in 1967 when I lived in Grand Island Ne. Fast forward.....I was working in the area in 1980 and stopped by the Cottonwood Farm, as it was named and first saw the 500K in the corncrib.....coont believe what I was looking at.....I knew what it was! A bankowner/cattle feeder owned it and really dint care about it. So I called a friend who might know someone who would be interested. Turns out, we ended up having a 5 bidder conference phone call auction to sell the car. My guy, who came and looked at it from long distance was the high bidder at $50K......car went then directly to Dean Trezos in NY......and then soon to Germany. Some months/years later I see this ad in Thoroughbred & Classic Cars magazine for this very car. The serial number was etched into my brain. See the description where it says "35 years dry storage"......LOL.....Porsche connection is that he still had the pushrod 56 Speedster....AND the 4cam engine. #90905GT....longer story short......I bought the engine, 56 Speedster, 57 VW split bus westy and a 750GT Saab Monte Carlo.........my most memorable score!
