Very similar to any engine that either looses a rod bearing, or stretches a connecting rod bolt. I have a 997S engine in the shop that suffered a similar failure, but it does not look any different from a 2.0T VW motor that got over revved and lost two rods, punching large holes in the block and melting a couple of pistons..... Found part of a piston and wrist pin on the under tray. "OK"
It is not unique at all to a Porsche M96/97 engine... But does create great drama....
