I agree with blau911. When new the AC sucked especially if you lived in the southern states. The new Griffiths AC systems work great. One of the first things new owners of the 1973 models would do was to remove those impact bumpers.
Try to get the engine running yourself, see what works, there's a lot of CIS posts on this site that will get you headed in the right direction.
