I'm not up to speed on SUV's but here is food for thought based on years of being involved with the RV industry,most "experts" say you should have about a 20% safety factor when towing,this means you take the maximum the vehicle is rated to tow and subtract 20%,this is the maximum you should tow but there is more to the story,you also have to figure how much "load" the vehicle is going to carry,you have to figure how many people,gas and "stuff" you pack into a vehicle for a weekend jaunt,it all adds up.I believe many people under estimate how much everything weighs and those are the folks that you see at the side of the road with overheated vehicles,blown tires,dead automatic transmissions etc.,towing is hard on a vehicle,also have to consider stopping all this weight,that's another story.Not trying to scare you but there is more to towing than hitching the trailer to the back of the vehicle.
