Funny story about this particular zipline set-up. Garrafon Park on Islas Mujeres near Cancun. The wife and i did this little adventure. Let's just say it is sort of "safety optional" kind of experience. When you get hooked in, they hand you a two sticks with strap mounted between them. That device is you brake. You're supposed to squeeze it as you approach each station to slow yourself down. I think there are like 5 stations all over the rocks and water. Well, if you happen to drop that little device or if the strap is extra crqppy and it wears through on the FIRST SECTION while you are on the zipline you are basically SOL (that's an acronym, not the beer). And these geniuses don't bother to keep spares at each station. And let's say you're of the basic linebacker build (6'1" 235). Guess what? You are "zipping' along pretty damn fast. And when the 150 lbs. worker at the next station sees you barrelling down the line towards them they basically do the old bullfighter Ole'! move and dart out of the way as you arrive. They do sort of lay their hands on you as roll by to give the APPEARANCE of trying to help slow you down. Fortunately I had good footwear on that day and I basically bounced of the huge tree trunks with my feet as I arrived.
