Nothing in mine either if I'm having Darjeeling or Pu-Erh (or white, green or oolong). I find that pretty much anything Asian is great by itself. I'm sure the others are as well, but I like the others with a little something.
I find that brewing time also has a HUGE effect on flavor. A quick brew (30secs - 2mins) gives lots of flavor without bitterness. You can also usually steep the same leaves 2-3 times. If you brew longer (3-5 mins) then I usually find that the bitterness goes way up and it's not as good.
