i know the RS ran these tires with flares. my '76 had some crappy 215/60-15's on it when i bought it, so imagine with enough negative camber and height adjustment is should work. hoping someone may have done this.
currently running 205/55-15 yokohamas all around.
my car has a 3.2, so i think the additional diameter (almost 1.5") shouldn't be too much of an issue. this is DD for me, so low gearing and ride height aren't the biggest priority.
ulitimately, i'd like to be able to cruise at 80 without spinning almost 4K as i do now...

My experience on a '72 w/ stock suspension and alignment was that the 7 w/ 215/60 burned the paint a couple of inches above the lip
not sure what Yokes you have but comparing 205/55 S.drive to CN36 215/60,
gearing cost is ~ 17.3lb-ft and inertial cost increases the net cost by ~2.3lb-ft because though the tires weigh about the same the weight is further from the axis of rotation
Additionally you will want to change the fronts to a taller tire, either 185//70 or 195/65 which may potentially add to the torque cost
currently 82mph is ~4k, w/ 215/60 it would be ~87mph
as John says changing 5 to .72 also changes 4k to 87mph
