The movie did exaggerate. However he did expel the incorrigible students but not all in one day. He did chain the doors but removed them when challenged in court and he was not arrested. He did walk around with a bull horn and a bat but never threatened a student. Finally he did improve the school environment and student scores.
Most telling is that after he moved on the school turned to crap again and the city of Paterson lost control when the State took over.
