I’m guessing the linseed oil burns a layer of non-metallic coating onto the nuts... like a really thin layer of plastic or something that’s actually bonded to the metal somehow... not sure though. Maybe someone can explain the actual chemical reaction involved there... It’s an interesting idea - could act as anti-seize and also prevent corrosion.
With all these old projects it’s 75% about stopping / reversing / preventing future corrosion. Rust never sleeps.
I’m curious as to whether he bothered to rebuild the exhaust muffler with sheet metal. I suspect that one he just replaced with a new part... was pretty gone but I’m sure could’ve been done with some sheet metal and skill.
