Just put the solar cells on every house, warehouse, and other non-skyscrapers for now.

Less transmission losses than putting a big hunk o' sodium out in the desert.

In hot areas you also get shade so less A/C needs.

Some buildings here have semi-transparent solar cells on the windows - makes an interesting pattern on the floor.
