Appreciate all the comments guys, it is very helpful to see the different reasoning behind the opinions.
Yes I corresponded with Jack O here on Pelican back in the mid-90's when he crashed his first black beauty and bought the donor of the current version in Chicago. It is an epic auto, no doubt about it.
I will admit I have a flare sickness. I love the look of an air cooled 911 widebody. It's a cosmetic thing not a performance oriented mod, kind of like the M491 Carreras. My very first 911 was a '73MFI with 930 style fenders. I could not give that car away in 1995 and sold it at a loss after a full mechanical restoration. I sold that one to buy a non-sunroof SC coupe which became the Red Rocket, 930 engine and flares. I sold that car in 2010 at a loss to buy a charcoal metallic gray 930 slant. You see the pattern, I need to stop doing mods that lose money (and selling cars right before the market goes up).
This car is not desirable due to the color and chassis type which means I have less sweat equity to play with. Yes it is numbers matching and I have all of the stock parts such as the head lights and steering wheel which was replaced with a Momo. Yes I will leave the entire drive train alone as it was just rebuilt last year and runs extremely strong. The plan is to address the paint/body issues. The front bumper has paint missing causing surface rust and the right rear fender has bondo and bubbled paint which also has rusted. The pan/floor/trunk/etc are all solid and rust free, this car has been in the south all of it's life. I assume that fixing the paint will increase the value, the question becomes will adding flares negate any increase gained from fixing the paint on this particular car?

Here it is, I have named it Yoohoo.
