I like how aluminum and composite are “innovative” in a sports car but cheap tin cans on a truck. Sorry but you guys sometimes really lack perspective...
They are both great, anybody who says otherwise has no idea what they are talking about. In 2012 when I bought my last new vehicle it was between the F150 and Tundra. I felt they drove equally well and they were equally well made, but I was able to option the Ford exactly how I wanted and it was about $6k cheaper. I drove that truck to 90k without issues and then bought a 2013 with the Ecoboost and every tow option, which was also an excellent truck. I only upgraded to an F250 diesel because I regularly tow about 10,000 lb and 34’ of boat and trailer, no matter which 1/2 ton you purchase it won’t change the fact that a larger and heavier load will jerk your truck around. Can’t change physics!
So I’d say to ignore the fanboys, drive them both, and see which one makes the most sense with the options you want. The domestic trucks have all caught up with Toyota in terms of quality and reliability. In my opinion a 2000-ish Toyota is actually better made and designed then a brand new one. Toyota was making some of the best cars on the planet in the 1990s and early 2000s, but has to some extent lost their way in the last 10-15 years. They still make great vehicles, but they don’t make superior vehicles.
