The old 12 meter AC boats were definitely lead bottomed money grubbers, yet:
Dennis Connor losing the cup to the Australian boat with the wing keel in Freemantle in 1983 then winning in back in 1987 in San Diego was quite a bit deal news wise..
and let's not forget Ted (Captain America) Turner.
Like all sports, it is all about the money. it seems the Americas cup is not longer really country against country as is is just hired guns to a great extent. My opinion anyway..
And I certainly don't blame the "hired guns" for taking the money !!
