My weimaraner has bad separation anxiety. She's also a pretty athletic dog, or at least used to be in her youth. She used to climb over our 5' and 6' gates (the fences in our backyard are 8'), so when we replaced the gates we asked for 7' tall ones. Then she started digging underneath the gates, but that's another story fixed by paver tiles (bricks were no good). Hopefully your dog won't be as motivated to escape. Weird thing with our dog, with her separation anxiety, was that she wasn't escaping to run away. She was escaping trying to find us when we would leave the house. She would escape, then walk up and down the sidewalk on our block looking for us. If she didn't find us, she would then wait for us in our driveway.
