Now that the soft top surfboards have come out. A bit floatier, less dangerous, and can't help but catch a wave, they are out there. A friend of mine teaches PE at a girl's high school and asked them if they wanted surfing. Ha, he has a team of about 20 or 30 of them out there.

Good friend of mine here teaches a surfing class that's run through the city recreational department. Mostly very young kids:
