building a 1500 awhp 8,750 rpm turbo motor
i was fortunate enough that one of my great friends and mentors was willing to do a collaboration on a project that i am currently working on. it is a 996tt widebody car that is still awd and is being widened 8" in the rear and 4" in the front. it has received suspension components from ERP and JRZ, a built trans and this motor and several carbon fiber parts.
I drove out to AZ to lean on my good friend John Bray at Evospec. he was kind enough to allow me to use his shop to assemble two motors in a matter of 3.5 days in his shop all while he and his amazing team did their thing. i could have done it at my shop, but when he hinted that i could come "hang out" with him while we both did our own thing i jumped at the opportunity!
the two motors i built while there were both over 1,000 hp. one was a 1250 awhp motor with his rods, pistons, 997 tt crank, custom headstuds, stage 1 heads and cams that was for a customer that bought a turbo that was supposedly built already. Although we soon found out that when people try to drill a case for bigger headstuds and assemble these motors in their garage bad things happen... like a bent rod, bent crank, blown head gasket and a cracked case!
the second motor is going in one of the shop cars and received all that evospec offers. their custom rods, custom pistons, 4.0l stroker crank, custom bearings, custom oil pump, custom headstuds, stage 3++ heads and cams with the valvetrain to rev safely to 8,750 rpms.
i was working diligently as to not wear out my welcome by getting in the way, or wasting too much time taking photos so there are not as many pics as i usually take to provide to customers for the above mentioned reasons and it is not a customer car.
