I've always avoided pine until recent years, opting for hardwoods, like oak (red & white), hickory, etc. Usually big azz trees, 2-4' in dia. and since my splitter will do the task, I let the wood dry out first... makes a huge difference in the weight I have to lift. You're not gonna split those with a whack .... I promise
