Tim -- I think we all can agree that the last thing any sane person wants is to take unnecessary trips to the DMV (or try to find somebody on the phone who can give you a straight answer). My advice would be to prepare the packet of info specified in the "For vehicles without a lien" section of the link I provided, take it to the Florida DMV office when you go to get a FL drivers license and register your car for Florida plates and ONLY give it to them AFTER they've satisfied your concern that once you give them the packet of info, you'll get a shiny new Florida title.
