The boxster is a fun car to drive especially top-down but if you like to work on P-cars you are going to miss that without your 911 SC. The Boxster is very low maintenance. I have a 69-912 just to help me get by the urges to get my hands greasey.
MY00 and on up are your best bests. Some of the early years had some problems, but most were fixed by the dealers under warranty. Oil & filter changes every 15,000 miles run about $170 at the dealer, DIY about $70. There are belts, spark plugs, fluids to change but that's true of any P-car.
