Ok, yes I am an attorney too. I don't follow what exactly happened here in this transaction. If you want to let me know, I will be glad to answer some questions the best that I can. I am in NC not California, however the legal systems are similar. A lot of attorneys just bluster about using the courts to further their selfish goals, however, seldom do they have the actual intent of doing so. I am not sure about how much money you are quibbling over, unless it is a pretty substantial amount, I wouldn't worry if I were you. Since you are out of state, he would need to file suit against you in Federal Court, not his local court. This is huge disincentive. From what I can gather from the bits and pieces that I picked up on, I would seriously doubt he would have a claim. To prevail on a liable claim, he would have to show that you impacted his economic interests or ability to make income. Certianly you did nothing to effect his legal practice (or lack thereof) and with so many negative comments, I would feel confident that you did not seriously harm his ability to derrive some income from sales of his car. It doesn't sound like you should loose any sleep over this.
Man, now you made me sound like a lawyer. I hate that.
