That said there’s another issue. There’s more reliable power available with lower CR’s and more boost, timing, etc. than there is trying to tune around a higher CR to make it live. You can go to far of course; a low CR makes the engine have a”soft” response low down.

Thats true, but I think he should be fine with a low boost and conservative tune (moderate timings, rich fuel .. etc).
