We lost another Pelican: RKDinOKC
I feel many people want to know when a Pelican member is lost to us.
On February 12th, 2021 RKDinOKC died. His real name is or was Richard K. Davis. I am writing this because he was a good close buddy. He lived just a mile from my house and we started eating lunch together on Tuesdays for the last 12 to 15 years. I don't even know for sure how long, but it was many years.
We had a simple system, one of us would text the other a single word, Lunch.
No question mark, no further comments. The reply was the name of a restaurant most times. We both knew time to meet, the only question was where. We chatted when we got together and not via a text.
Richard had a very pretty, blue metallic 928 GTS4 5 speed. It was one of just two 928 that were GTS4 cams and a 5 speed in that color. He was really fast in it at many years of autocrossing it. He also owned a Cayenne Turbo that was just silly fast. He did enjoy speed.
He was a big part of our local Porsche club and served as president twice and was our first web master, and a great autocrosser.
Richard had a stroke back just before Thanksgiving, and fell an broke his arm to add insult to injury. In the hospital they gave him a case of Covid-19 as a bonus. That meant a respirator and a feeding tube. He did battle back against Covid and after a few weeks was off the respirator, but evidently a second stroke was the fatal blow.
He was just 61. He was a lifetime heavy smoker.
He hosted my company's email and web page on his server at his house for many years. We had a challenge getting the email files off the server and moved to Office 365 exchange server. So many times I wished I could have called him for advice on the process. I still can't bring myself to delete his contact information. I will have to wait a little longer for that step.
I just returned from his funeral. I was honored by his family to include me in the services. It was a small mostly family affair. RIP buddy.
