There is a couple of problems with the universal GM skateboard Platform which they claimed to invent back in 2002 or so.
-First, the amount of chassis flex has to be enormous on one plane and thus it has to be designed very solid and heavy.
-Second, crumple zones.
Steel can be quite flexible
