
As can hopefully be seen (not sure if the photo upload was a success) I have fitted a final drive from an R1200 RT. This diff is the first gen ABS with the none vented diff case. I do not however have ABS on my bike which may be an issue. More of that later.
It was a simple swap and has given the bike a more long legged feel. I was never completely happy with the original final drive ratio. I did find myself looking for that elusive seventh gear on occasion on long motorway journeys. The old ratio was 2.75 and the new is 2.62. There is a slight barely noticeable drop in acceleration but as long as the gear selected is correct I don't find this to be an issue. I did have the ECU remapped over winter so this may be masking this.
The issue I have is that the speedo is no longer working. I was forced to use the cable that came with the new diff as the two wheel sensors are completely different in size. I used BMW connectors to mate the new cable to my loom.
I have now reached my knowledge limit and would like to know whether the new wheel sensor can ever be compatible with the S speedo or whether I am in a losing game and should cut my losses and go back to standard, which would be a shame. I was looking forward to a post lock down ride to get a proper feel for this change.
