I've got a heavily optioned '08 GTS, which we've talked about. It's been a great truck....tows well, comfy, plenty fun to drive.
There are some goofy things that go wrong with them. The Cardan shaft bushing goes bad...not if, but when. There's the "Jimi Fix" which I actually did to mine for about $20 and an hour of my time. I did it as a stop gap, but it's held up just fine for 7K miles, so I'll keep that fix.
Thermostats are a pain to replace (involves removing the intake....might as well replace the waterpump while you're in there). I replaced both of those things last year. ...and ended up having to replace the intake manifold due to a stupid mistake (hot shop light on plastic manifold....you get the idea)
Coolant tubes are a given.
The High Pressure fuel pump goes out...and they're not cheap. In fact, mine is on it's way out...so that's next on the agenda.
The GTS you were looking at was awesome...it had the correct GTS wheels on it. My wheels were replaced by the PO, because she didn't like the ride of the low profile tires, so she put regular S wheels on it.
I'm at 122K miles on it (bought it with 80k-ish miles) and in the grand scheme of things, it's been completely fine. Especially since you're capable of wrenching, I wouldn't be too concerned.
