Bingo - takes 2 minutes to see if 1) have others had issues with the seller on this board 2) looking at their non-classified posts goes a long way toward tell if they are legit
If the above isn't informative, or they don't have many posts, it doesn't automatically make them a scammer - but proceed with additional caution.
The idea of making the forum a paid subscription, while it seems like a reasonable thing to do (I'd certainly pay), it may be more complicated for our host than it appears. For example it may obligate them to provide a level of service, introduce liability, etc. Just speculating though.
Having a minimum number of posts before being allowed to post in the classifieds may seem like a good idea, but the creative scammers would just start spamming all the tech sub-forums with gibberish to get past it and create a mess for someone to clean up.
