Same nut fell off mine, but I was lucky enough to find it in the roof. It had fallen all the way back near the drain hole. I used a coat hanger with gum on the end to retrieve it. As for installing the cables, I removed the "pipe cleaner" material from the new cables I bought from PP, and I DID NOT grease them. They did require some finesse, but they went in pretty easily. Grease will attract and collect dust, mucking up the whole works in a short period of time.
