I tried a 9 volt. It actually works!!
OK, I'm an idiot.
It works, but it's not looking real promising. It hunts for a steady resistance before announcing what it is, which takes forever if it ever does settle down and find one. I need it for continuity more than actual resistance and it just hunts for the exact resistance. I don't really need to know the difference between .01 and .02 ohms. I'll try it on a voltage tomorrow. It does have a 20 volt scale which might work on a 6 volt system. That would be useful.
