Maybe, but will it hold the heavy stones securely? Im not adverse to spending a few hundred bucks on a quality tool that works considering ive already spent several thousand dollars on knives

the sharpener will pay for itself very quickly

knives and sharpening them to my preferences, is a hobby basically. If I lived in a cave in the forest, i would probably just sharpen my knife on a rock
