I'm not talking about old lumber. I've just been through a bathroom remodel. If they needed a 5 foot 2x4 and they have is a 4 1/2 drop, they throw the 4 1/2 on the dumpster and cut up an 8. Later, when they need a 4 1/2 they cut up another 8.
