I was assigned to NMCB40 out of Davisville, Rhode Island. I was a member of a small group known as "The Landing Party" made up of 25 enlisted men, one Chief P.O. and a Lt. JG. Our job once we got to Diego Garcia was to make preparations for the next body (about 125 or so) known as the "Advanced Party". They in turn took care of preparations for the first main body arrival, etc. Once the entire battalion got there we had about 800 enlisted, Chiefs and Officers. The largest Seabee battalion ever assembled! As they say, "the rest is history" !
