To be fair, the rally cars of the days.. they weren't even correct then.
Cars got wrecked in a crash.. then 2 weeks later showed up with same vin at the start of the next rally.. ALL the time..
All the oem's did it.. If you competed in pro rallying, you did vin transplants at the factory.
off course it wasn't legal, but everybody did it, and everybody knew it.
It was just easier AND Safer to pull a chassis of the main line and transplant (cut out from old and restamp the same vin on the new chassis) then anybody could repair those pile ups
And if they didn't crash an rise like a phoenix, they got hacked and modded and ripped and replaced continously... so good luck deciding what is correct or not on such cars.
