Some of the OTHER boats. I guess there is a chance they cut them loose in an effort to help right the ship. Regardless of how it happened, it doesn't appear that it helped much and the ship is now abandoned. It is clearer here in this video.
Not sure why they didn't use the lifeboat. My guess is that because the Coast Guard was already there with a swimmer and maybe they figured going directly into the drink was safer.
