On the tire of my car the other day, all day. I went back after dark and he was gone. I saw another on a pole out front this morning, but he is gone. I'm curious if he was a snack for a bird or decided to find a better place to hide.
I noticed what I assumed was a smudge on my glasses. I tried to clean it a couple of times, but it wouldn't budge. It was hard to see (not being able to use the glasses to see the glasses), but I noticed when I really looked that it seemed to have structure instead of being just a smudge. I then noticed that the same seemed to exist in the same spot on the other lens. I had no idea. It's not visible except at just the right angle with just the right light.
What the hell is this thing. I think it was 1" long.

cecropia moth, North America's largest native moth. Per wikipedia, some have been reported with wingspans of 5-7" (mine weren't that big). I had this one on a post one evening, then the next morning, there were 3 all within 3-6' of each other on the same pole.
