One of the most amazing stories of survival at sea were the Robinson Family back in 1971. Several months into their voyage their sailboat, the 43 footer named Lucette was holed by a whale and the family of six survived in a raft at sea for 38 days.
One of the most incredible stories was of surviving on turtle blood, meat and the eye balls. The Robinson's were literally saved by eating turtles! One of the children savored the eye balls for its fluid while the family cut up the turtle meat, let it dry in the sun and ate the meat like jerky. They claimed the blood tasted very much like water. They were all alive when rescued by a Korean fishing vessel.
Read the story of their amazing survival and how critical sea turtles were in their keeping them alive.
