editors note- Steve really does know everything about these cars!
And - no- I don't want to hear about it's problems, unless there is something I can do to prevent it. Kind of like scoring in a 997s, or IMS issues. People who are completely unaware of the issues seem to be happier people. Ignorance = bliss.
I wanted to snag a 6 cylinder over a the modular 2.0 turbo 4 cylinder. I was thinking it was a 3.2 6 cylinder na, but saw the turbo yesterday. No leaks from the turbo seals.
Hoping things go well. Timing chain, and accessible starter compared to my inline 5.
The bevel gear housing seems more stout than my 2005, but the awd is still only a backup.
Being that it's local, the awd system has pretty much never seen useage either. The weather has been mild. It's not all corroded up like a rust belt car.
Also happy about the haldex generation 5 system not having an AOC filter. That's a pia to replace. Much easier to just change aoc fluid more regularly.
Just ordered a rear hitch/wiring, and all sorts of tranny fluids, aoc fluids, diff fluids and such. The oil was recently dealer changed. Also new pads and rotors.
This was one of those things were it hit a lot of check marks. Cheap. My wife could drive it, it has a dog fence to keep pets in the rear. Booster seats for kids (my wife will use it for carpool twice a week- and two kids still need boosters), insurance is cheap, taxes are cheap, it's already taken the depreciation hit, and being rural, if a deer smacks it tomorrow, it's not the end of the world.
The interior is a brownish leather seat color over a lighter beige scheme. It doesn't photograph well, but the interior reminded me of my 997s. I think the bad pics lent it to not show well on the internet/reflecting in lower price. In real life though, very plush, and will hide stains in a dirty kid (more dirty me) environment much better than the lighter grey/beige interiors.
Finding a recovering solution will be more of a challenge. It is not the typical oak grey / beige/ arena type interiors that are so prevalent you can just pick up stuff off ebay.
Other stuff includes heated steering wheel/seats/backup cameras/navigation/blind spot sensors/ and all sorts of other crap my 2005 didn't have, and I haven't even looked at yet, nor do I really care about.
Nice. But not too nice.
My wife is in love with the auto rear gate (I am not), and she's already synched her phone into it, so when I am in range of her phone, I hear her music and get her calls.
Good for spying
