5mil are usually garbage and tear easy. Light jobs only.
7mil for almost everything else. Can be reused.
9mil for handling objects and parts. You lose some fingertip sensation and dexterity.
Garden gloves for heavy objects like shovels, plants, lumber, tires, etc
