I should rename the thread "THANK YOU BAZ!!!"

Changed the transmission fluid today.

I am in love!

7 days into ownership and it was time to bite the bullet and change the tranny fluid. These transmissions are the weak point of the car, with "lifetime" fluids, which if changed too late in the game, have already damaged the trans beyond help. You can take a car that is running and screw it up doing a change on a high mileage car, so I've been a bit apprehensive last couple of days.

Let's take a perfectly running car and screw it up!

Long story short, I didn't know what to expect. I generally like to change the fluid at about 50k latest. I didn't get this car low mileage though. This car was at 100k. Would the change work at 100k? That was the big $$$$ question. I went with a gut instinct when I bought it. Time to put the instinct to the test.

When I got in there, I saw score marks on the drain plug. Someone had grabbed it with vice grips. Why? I dunno, but who cared, I was elated. It meant that someone had possibly changed the oil before. No change showed on the dealer notes. The PO HAD changed it before me. They loved the car!

Fluid came out still red and smelling fresh as new. I figure it had about 30-50k on it TOPS!

Fluid change went without a hitch, and is now bright light rioja red. I am so happy!!!!!

Next week, differential and Haldex oil change, and transmission oil change #2 in my wife's car, and diff/haldex change there as well.

This video is as good as any on the 6 speed later transmission change on yt. This is a different process than my 2005 5 speed change, which is even simpler:
