OK. I had to look it up. The Sound of Silence actually came from a failed Simon and Garfunkel album called Wednesday Morning, 3am. Bob Dylan was late for a recording session so the producer started playing this track of two guys singing (the failed Sound of Silence cut off the album) for the session musicians sitting around waiting on Bob and the session guys added what we hear now as the “original” version.
The track sounded so good they released it as a single and it shot to #1. Simon and Garfunkel reunited and cashed in on the popularity and cranked out another album really quickly...
