The way I see it (no I don’t have inside info lol) is why would you want the hassles and criticism in Europe and at home when you could run for championships and be a winner back home?
He certainly accomplished plenty and is doing a fine job now.

As a casual observer I don't think it's possible for anyone to compete with the best drivers in F1 if it's approached on a part time basis. Being fully integrated into a team gives that bit extra an arrive and drive driver will never achieve no matter how talented they are.
